Camera Cases
Camera cases are the midget cousins of camera bags. They are typically more compact, cheaper, and built only to transport a basic camera, perhaps a pack of batteries or two, and little else. They are made for photographers on the go, which often means tourists – who usually only need to carry a small digital camera and not much else as far as equipment goes. Camera cases are generally not made for the professional photography market, which needs larger bags to accommodate all the equipment and bulkier cameras they are wont to use.
Camera Cases
Camera cases often come in a rainbow of colors, but also stick to a very basic design and there is usually little decoration besides a couple colors and the brand name of the company that made the camera case.
Like camera bags, camera cases try to offer specialized accommodations to help protect a relatively fragile item like a digital camera. Many of the better ones have a hard, shell-like reinforcement built into the exterior of the camera case, as well as generous padding to help shield the camera from a nasty fall. They also often have a soft interior linen covering that is designed to be gentle to delicate external features of the average digital camera, such as the LCD screen. Being waterproof is another feature to look for in quality camera cases.

While camera bags tend to have a large strap or two with which one can carry the bag, camera cases will only have something like a small wrist strap with which to carry it, if a strap is provided at all. Some camera cases are made so that a strap that is already attached to the camera itself can be easily allowed to stick out of the camera case and be used as a strap for the camera and the camera case as one.

For all the trappings that camera cases offer to protect a camera, they are generally not as effective or as lasting as camera bags, owing simply to their small size. Their small size also makes them easier to forget and leave behind, much like wallets and little purses. The fact that they often don’t incorporate the use of a very sturdy strap can also mean that they are more vulnerable to being snatched by thieves. Therefore, camera cases are best kept inside larger bags or backpacks when one is traveling abroad.
