Right Angle Viewing Attachments Or Viewfinders

Right angle viewing attachments or viewfinders are well-known camera features that are integral to all camera designs and are used in all types of photography. In many cases the viewfinder is simply the small, iris-sized window through which the photographer can look and see the area that his camera will be making a picture of. There are typically markings superimposed on what is seen through right angle viewing attachments or viewfinders, to indicate the exact borders of the photo-to-be. Traditional right angle viewing attachment or viewfinders essentially behave like looking through a telescope backwards, in that the image seen is made smaller rather than larger.

Viewfinder

With the digital age came a second type of viewfinder – the electronic viewfinder. This is the viewfinder used in many digital cameras and camcorders, as well as some advanced film cameras. The electronic viewfinder can be used to scroll through older pictures and videos that are stored on the camera, and can also be a preview of special settings that can be used on the camera. It can also superimpose markings on the pictures seen in it which indicate information such as the time the photo had been taken. What one sees in the electronic viewfinder of a digital camera is similar to what one sees in a camcorder. The electronic viewfinder has greatly expanded what a viewfinder can be thought capable of.

Optical Viewfinder

In many respects the electronic viewfinder is superior to the regular viewfinder, but it also consumes a lot of battery power. It also can have rather choppy images when the camera is moved too much, and the resolution is worse than using the naked eye to view through traditional right angle viewing attachments or viewfinders. In camcorders, the electronic viewfinder is often used to replay videos that had been taken. When special effects like night vision is used, the electronic viewfinder is very useful in seeing what’s going on in the dark.

Electronic View Finder

Right angle viewing attachments or viewfinders are an indispensable part of taking photographs. Without it, the photographer’s ability to tell what he or she is taking a picture of is seriously impaired. The only exceptions are when the role of the viewfinder is transferred to a remote device in collaboration with the camera device. An example of this is the web camera, which essentially uses the computer monitor as its viewfinder. Hidden cameras are another example; in this case, the viewfinder is a remote video screen.
