Scanners

In today’s busy world, people are scattered all over the place. Most people live far from family and friends, and they don’t to share a lot of the special moments in life with far flung relatives. But just because you can’t all be in the same place doesn’t have to mean that you have to lose touch completely. Photos are a great way of getting face to face with people at a distance. Taking photos of a special event and sharing them with the friends and family members who couldn’t be there is a great way to keep people close and give everyone a little taste of the experience, even if they were far away. Digital cameras have certainly made sharing photos much easier than ever before. With digital photos, you can simply upload your images to your computer and then email them to family and friends, who will then have a crystal clear quality photograph on their end. But not all photos are digital, of course. You don’t have to have a digital camera to be able to share photos electronically. If you have a film based camera, or you simply want to share some old, pre-digital age photos, then all you need is a scanner. With a scanner, you can scan images into your computer and save them as you would any photo file, so you can email them to whomever you choose.

About Scanners

By far, the most popular kind of scanner for scanning photos into a computer is a flatbed scanner. Flatbed scanners are about the size of an average printer, but they have a lid that lifts up to expose a glass tray. You place your photos on the tray, close the lid, and start the scan. The machine will then scan the photos, record the data digitally, and send it your computer. These flatbed photo scanners are obviously great for scanning photos, but they can make take an electronic picture of anything you put into the machine, including text documents. Flatbed scanners are often made by digital camera manufacturers, like Canon canners and HP scanners. To get these scanners to communicate with your computer, you will need the right scanner software.

Not all scanners are designed for photos, however. Slide scanners, also called sheetfed scanners, scan documents you feed into them. They are small and portable – they look like a three hole punch. These kinds of scanners are often used by businesspeople when they’re traveling to scan receipts for their expenses.
